چکیده

As part of an Integrated Water Resource Assessment and Management project (IWRAM) in Northern Thailand, a Decision Support System is being constructed in order to provide guidelines for crop diversification and water allocation. The IWRAM software integrates a crop model with hydrological and economic models. Presented here is the integrated crop model, called CATCHCROP, which is capable of simulating yield response to water deficit and fertility depletion. External and internal constraints have largely influenced the model construction. Paucity of observed data and its reliability required the use of conceptual and recognized algorithms. Linkages with the economic and hydrological models led to the choice of a 10-days time step. The standalone version of the model has been tested against available data sets coming from two small catchments. First results are fairly satisfactory but it is acknowledged that this kind of integrated model should not be used at the farm plot level to assess cropping practices.  2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. Sensitivity Testing of a Biophysical Toolbox for Exploring Water Resources Utilisation and Management Options

This paper investigates the sensitivities of model outputs to model parameter values within a Biophysical Toolbox developed as part of a Decision Support System (DSS) for integrated catchment assessment and management of land and water resources in the highland regions of northern Thailand. The toolbox contains a hydrological module based upon the IHACRES rainfall-runoff model, a crop model (CA...

Annual Water Yield Estimation for Different Land Uses by GIS-Based InVEST Model (Case Study: Mish-khas Catchment, Ilam Province, Iran)

Fresh water supply and its security encounter a high level of fluctuating variability under global climate changes. To address these concerns in catchment water management, a good understanding of land use/cover impacts on the hydrological cycle affecting water supply is crucial. The objective of this study is to define a model to investigate the impact of existing land use/cover on water yield...

Agricultural Transformation and the Politics of Hydrology in Northern Thailand

Tensions over water resources in upland areas of northern Thailand are often attributed to reductions in water supply caused by forest clearing. This article argues that the hydrological evidence for such reductions in supply is very weak and that, rather, the key hydrological issue in upland catchments is a significant increase in water demand, especially during the dry season. The arguments a...

IWRAM: An integrated modelling toolbox for considering impacts of development and land use change in Northern Thailand

The IWRAM Decision Support System was developed to consider economic, environmental, and sociocultural trade-offs involved with resource competition and development in the Mae Chaem catchment in Northern Thailand. IWRAM contains two modelling toolboxes utilising a nodal network structure for catchment analysis: a Biophysical Toolbox, for considering the biophysical (erosion, streamflow, crop) i...

Assessment and analysis of the sensitivity of different methods for estimating of the reference crop evapotranspiration in a cold and moderate climate (Case study: Saqez catchment)

The phenomenon of evapotranspiration causes water and moisture losses from water, soil and vegetation levels. Due to the small amount of atmospheric precipitation and water resource constraints in Iran, it is important to calculate it through a suitable method. The present research attempts to evaluate the evapotranspiration reference crop (ETo) and present it in the form of zoning map as a bas...
